National General Adjuster (NGA)

The National General Adjuster (NGA) course is a 40-hour advanced training course designed for highly experienced insurance adjusters seeking to expand their expertise in multi-jurisdictional claims handling, national policy interpretation, and large-loss adjusting. This program provides in-depth instruction on the complexities of national insurance practices, focusing on state-specific legal precedents, regulatory compliance, and advanced claims management techniques. Participants will develop the skills necessary to handle multi-state claims effectively, resolve disputes across different jurisdictions, and manage large-scale catastrophe and commercial claims with precision and confidence.

The course covers six key chapters, including national policy interpretation, jurisdictional precedents, advanced estimating techniques, and specialized negotiation strategies. Participants will explore real-world case studies, legal analyses, and practical exercises to refine their critical thinking and decision-making skills. Special emphasis is placed on standardizing claims procedures, adapting to regional variations in laws, and integrating emerging trends in insurance adjusting. The program also includes disaster claims handling, large loss assessments, and mediation/arbitration techniques for high-value disputes.

To qualify for enrollment, students must have a minimum of nine years of adjusting experience, a valid license in good standing (where applicable), and a history of handling at least 750 insurance claims across six or more U.S. states or territories. Additionally, students must successfully complete the National Insurance Institute’s Ethics for Insurance Professionals course. Upon passing the final 50-question examination with a score of 80% or higher, participants will earn the National General Adjuster (NGA) designation, signifying their proficiency in national claims management, complex loss evaluations, and regulatory compliance​.
