Certified General Adjuster (CGA)
The Certified General Adjuster (CGA) course is a comprehensive 30-hour course designed for insurance adjusters seeking advanced expertise in claims handling, policy interpretation, and negotiation techniques. This program provides a broad, all-lines foundation, equipping adjusters with the knowledge necessary to handle complex insurance claims across various jurisdictions. Students will gain in-depth insight into claims investigation, damage estimation, legal considerations, and specialized adjusting techniques for catastrophe and high-value claims. This course ensures that participants develop the critical thinking, analytical skills, and professional judgment needed to excel in the adjusting profession.
The program covers policy interpretation, estimating best practices, settlement negotiations, and legal and regulatory compliance. Participants will explore industry case law, dispute resolution methods, and best practices for handling specialized claims, including multi-party and catastrophe-related losses. Additionally, the course provides structured training in report writing, claims documentation, and effective communication strategies to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the adjusting process. By completing this course, students will develop a well-rounded skill set applicable to independent, carrier, and public adjusting roles while maintaining the highest ethical standards in claims management.
To qualify for enrollment, applicants must have at least three years of adjusting experience, a valid license in good standing (where applicable), and a history of handling at least 150 insurance claims. Additionally, students must complete the National Insurance Institute’s Ethics for Insurance Professionals course prior to certification. Upon successful completion of the final 50-question examination with a score of 80% or higher, participants will earn the Certified General Adjuster (CGA) designation, signifying expertise in claims adjusting and a commitment to professional excellence.
